Capoeira at Graded
Did you know that every Wednesday afternoon, capoeira instructor Ana Cláudia passionately teaches this martial-art dance to Graded students in the lower gym? As many of you know, capoeira is a sort of dance-fight developed by slaves during the colonial era in Brazil. Coming from African roots, slaves developed this dance not only to carry on their culture, but also to secretly prepare to fight their captors and escape. About capoeira, Graded student Thomas Mattar comments, "The feeling of fighting in perfect synchronization, without hitting or taking a single strike is absolutely fantastic and full of adrenaline." If you want to be part of this amazing program, come to the lower gym any Wednesday, from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m.
