Exactly five years ago, the domain "youtube.com" was registered on the web by a group of friends (yes, they are very rich now). Their early headquarters were situated above a pizzeria/Japanese restaurant. Although there were other online video services around at the time, YouTube took off. One year later Google bought the company for 1.65 billion dollars. Now, YouTube has reached an incredible 2 billion daily views and about 24 hours of new footage uploaded every minute. It is amazing to see how YouTube was able to become the world’s third most visited website in such a short period of time.


Here is YouTube’s first ever uploaded video! It shows one of Youtube’s founders, Jawed Karim, at San Diego Zoo.
