A team of American biologists led by Craig Venter have announced today that they successfully created a synthetic bacterium capable of reproduction which (or dare I say"whom") they have darlingly named "Synthia". This is an earth shattering step for biological-engineering, giving scientists the ability to create organisms with programmed DNA's to perform functions that could never have evolved in nature.

This leads me to obvious questions: Was Stan Lee really more of a psychic than a comic book writer? (click here if you don't know what I'm talking about). Will Frankenstein be super mad about this newfound competition? Will the original Cynthias with a 'C' be super jealous? Will religious leaders and believers protest? Is this even a big deal?

Well, only time will tell. And yes...it's a pretty big deal guys.
