Andy Warhol (1928-1987) – Mr. America
Artwork by the iconic Pop Art artist can be seen at Estação Pinacoteca. Recurring themes in Warhol's work include consumerism, cultural obsession with celebrities and the postwar atmosphere of the late 60's in the United States. The exhibition holds famous silkscreen prints, paintings and photographs such as the Marilyn Monroe and Campbell Soup series. Both Lu and I have visited the exhibition and agree that it is pristinely curated. An absolute must see! But hurry: it is only up until May 23rd, from 10am to 6pm.

Estação Pinacoteca - Largo General Osório, 66 - Luz. R$3 to R$6. Saturday is Free.

Hélio Oiticica (1937-1980) - Museu é o Mundo

The work of Hélio Oiticia is displayed at Itaú Cultural. He is considered one of the most revolutionary artists of his time, and is internationally renown for his innovative experimental art. I have seen several of his pieces at London's Tate Modern as well as at the Inhotim Museum (Brumadinho, MG). I recommend it to anyone who appreciates modern art.

Itaú Cultural. Av. Paulista, 149, 2168-1776
from 11AM to 8PM, Mondays closed

On October 19, 2009, a fire destroyed about two thousand works by Oiticica.

i was at the virada! it was really an incredible atmosphere. you could find people from literally all walks of life, doing all sorts of crazy stuff, a real microcosm of são paulo's cultural mix. plus, the cost/benefit couldn't be better; cant go wrong when its all FREE. of course, that made the owners of bars and padarias feel compelled to ripping their customers off for everything from water to beer to WC use, but regardless, great event.

Thanks for being so participative Daniel!
I have a few friends who went last year and they said it was really chaotic. I heard it was a little more organized this year. I wish I had gone, I reeeaaally missed out on some stuff I wanted to have seen.
