Beam me up to Kepler-22b!

For all you sci-fi lovers who imagine unknown planets and possible life on other planets, wait no longer: Behold, Planet Kepler-22b. It’s a peculiar-looking orb, which nevertheless is surprisingly similar to Earth and two times its size. Though little is still known about it (for NASA only discovered it a couple of weeks ago), the information we do have is quite fascinating. Kepler-22b orbits around a sun-like star in a place called the habitable zone. The interesting thing is the planet’s temperature is just right enough to be able to have the essential ingredient to create life: water. Yet scientists aren’t even sure if Kepler-22b is made of liquid, rock, or gas. What they do know is this extraordinary discovery has excited loads of lovers of sci-fi and astronomy.
