At This Year's Oscars, Silence Reigns

In Oscar history, there have only been two silent movies to receive the Best Picture award, one in 1929 (the WWI film "Wings"), which was the first year the Oscars were held, and the other this year. After sound arrived in the film world in 1930, silent films became relics. So when Michel Hazanavicius decided to make a silent movie, it took him years to find investors for “The Artist.” In contrast to its competitor, “Hugo,” which used digital innovations,Hazanavicius went "old school," using real film. As a result of winning the Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, Costume Design, and Original Score, Hazanavicius' “The Artist” has now won more international awards than any other French movie in history.
